The E-Tron s and E-Tron s Sportback were announced as the first mass-production cars to use three electric motors. The vehicles have one electric motor in the front axle and two electric motors in the rear axle. This results in a combination that produces a total of 503 horsepower and a maximum torque of 973 Nm. The maximum speed of the vehicles, which completed 0-100 km/h acceleration in 4.5 seconds, was announced as 210 km/h. The Audi E-Tron s and E-Tron s Sportback use a battery with a usable energy capacity of 86 kWh to power the electric motors. The battery, which is placed parallel to the floor of the vehicles and thus pulls down the center of gravity, gives the E-tron s a driving range of 359 kilometers and the E-Tron s Sportback a driving range of 363 kilometers.

Equipped with Intelligent Driving Control, the Audi E-tron s and E-Tron s Sportback are powered only by electric motors in the rear while operating in normal driving mode to improve fuel efficiency. The electric motor at the front also kicks in only when the driver wants more power. Each of the electric motors in the rear transfers torque to the wheel to which it is attached. Thus, there is no need for a mechanical differential. The exterior design of the E-Tron s and E-Tron s Sportback, which is 50 mm wider than the standard E-tron models, features aggressive bumpers with silver details, a model-specific grille design and digital Matrix LED headlights as an option.
